Local fans of Florida-based fast casual breaded chicken purveyor PDQ (People Dedicated to Quality) can rejoice. The company has announced a Houston outpost will open May 31 at 9440 Katy Freeway in Bunker Hill with a second location slated for Cypress later this year.
PDQ, principally owned by Outback Steakhouse founding CEO Bob Basham and Nick Reader, prides itself on fresh ingredients and fast service in a family friendly atmosphere. Specialties are chicken tenders with sauce (what, no cream gravy?), sandwiches, salads and thick milkshakes. Since opening in 2011, the business has grown to 39 stores in the Southeast including three in Texas: Austin, Frisco and Cedar Park.
The Houston location is hiring up now and will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week and also offer take-out and catering. They're also bringing a food truck to town. Plans are underway for a grand opening festivus in early June, featuring former Oilers quaterback and spicy sausage maker Dan Pastorini as a special guest. Stay tuned for details.
