We're sad to see the gourmet dogs go! The last of James Coney Island's Houston Chefs and Show Dogs series will be Hugo Ortega's Holy Molé hot dog. JCI, a 90-year-old Houston institution, will sell the Hugo's owner's gourmet hot dog as the last in this promotion that has showcased inventive dogs from some of the city's best gourmands. Ortega's Holy Molé, made of smoked chicken andouille sausage topped with tinga, molé sauce, queso fresco, crema fresca and held together by a Slow Dough pretzel bun. It will be $8.49 and will be sold at all JCIs from November 1 to the end of the month. As with all of the other chef dogs, $1000 for this month's gourmet hot dog will go to the chef's choice recipient, and Ortega has already announced that he's chosen Houston Community College Foundation. Past chefs have donated to Foodways Texas, HFD Capt. William Dowling Family Fund, Music Doing Good Inc., Recipe for Success Foundation and The Arc of Greater Houston.
Currently in JCI stores is Sparrow Bar & Cookshop chef and owner Monica Pope's gourmet hot dog. That will still be up for grabs until the end of this month.
