Trentino's Plan of World Domination Begins With Austin

Marcelo Kreindel, owner of Houston's Trentino Gelato calls 2011 the year "we had our dreams come true." He's got several reasons to make such a bold claim, and the first is the very successful line of Houston chef-inspired gelato that launched earlier this year.

With flavors ranging from Chipotle Peanut Butter to Almond Fig and chef participants like Monica Pope of t'afia and Robert Del Grande of RDG + Bar Annie, the new gelato line has attracted attention from all over the state. And Kreindel is ready to give the people what they want. More chef-inspired gelato.

Austin is next, and the line-up is just as legit as its Houston counterpart. Trentino will partner with Bill Norris, beverage director for Alamo Drafthouse, Ned Elliot of Foreign & Domestic, Shawn Cirkiel of Parkside, James Holmes of Olivia, Plinio Sandalio of Congress and Iliana de la Vega of El Naranjo to create special flavors for the Austin market. They'll be available before Thanksgiving.

But that's not the end of it, after Austin, Kreindel is taking the series to San Antonio and then Dallas, in partnership with their local chefs as well. He even plans on expanding nationally, and "replicating the model on the East and West coast."
