Just when you thought it was safe to come back to Eater Houston and read posts without all that legal jargon, more people filed lawsuits against more restaurants. This time, Eater 38'er, Bombay Pizza is one of the defendants as well as Blue Water Seafood in northwest Houston.
Both lawsuits were filed on claims that the establishments violated the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) by what is commonly referred to as "paying straight time for overtime." This basically means that instead of paying time-and-a-half for any hours in excess of 40 worked in one week, they allegedly paid regular wages.
This is the third time Blue Water Seafood has been sued on claims of paying straight time for overtime, including one case that was filed earlier this year.
