Byrd's Market announced today with a simple, yet poignant tweet that the downtown market/counter service restaurant is no longer with us. Originally conceptualized as a place to get a quick bite or buy prepared foods and simple groceries for the urban neighborhoods downtown, Byrd's Market never truly reached its full potential as the latter. Who will swipe the new space is anybody's guess, but it wouldn't be awful if Houston proper had a small, simple gourmet market similar to the Hubbell & Hudson Kitchen in The Woodlands. [Twitter]
