Alison Cook awards one star to newcomer, El Real Tex-Mex Cafe. With founding fathers Bryan Caswell, Bill Floyd (both also owners of Reef, Little Bigs and Stella Sola) and former Houston Press food critic Robb Walsh, the vintage Tex-Mex concept was this spring's most anticipated opening. Cook found that inconsistency is rampant at El Real and upon one visit, sampled "dishes that ranged from very good to terrible and all the points in between." [29-95]
