Houston chef Michael Dei Maggi's tumultuous career is always fun to watch. From Max's Wine Dive to the ill-fated Rockwood Room to Tony Vallone's Caffe Bello, chef Dei Maggi is a nomadic chef to say the least. The most surprising move of late: his recent foray into casual dining at Dragon Bowl Asian Bistro. Shocking or not, this week's Cafe Review from the Houston Press could be an indication that Dei Maggi's interesting change of pace was the right decision for all involved.

Food critic Katharine Shilcutt found the once-mediocre Heights Chinese eatery has revamped the menu with cheeky $100 hand rolls, tasty pork belly steamed buns, a new sushi line-up and a fresh change of direction from its pre-Dei Maggi days.
