Coppa Ristorante opened late last week and it certainly didn't take long for Twitter to explode with rave reviews. Taking over the space that previously occupied Catalan, many were skeptical about a) yet another Italian restaurant opening up in town and b) Coppa's ability to fill the void left by the much-beloved restaurant it replaced. But after this weekend, no one seems skeptical anymore.
Coppa patrons patient enough to brave the opening weekend crowds were justly rewarded with food that seemed to meet and exceed everyone's expectations. Coppa, in return, was justly rewarded with lots of positive twitter chatter. Here's a small sampling of what people had to say about the newest kid on the Washington block.
Holy cow, brick over sardines w raisins, caper berries, n toasted breadcrumbs might be one of my new fav Houston dishes @CoppaRistoranteThe pate capagnola with housemade pickles is an almost whimsical and refined expression of childhood bologna. @CoppaRistorante
Awesome small plates @copparistorante: brick oven sardines, octopus carpaccio, tuna crudo, meatballs, pickled veggies.@copparistorante's corn agnolotti is really nice. Great fresh corn flavor. [chef] @brandikey is off to an awesome start!
Guys. @copparistorante is going to be a game-changer in Houston. GUYS. Too overwhelmed with joy to say anything else right now. Amazed. There was whipped mortadella. And warm olives with orange. And octopus carpaccio with arugula. And sardines with pine nuts. And meatballs!
And with that, your reservations just got a lot more difficult. Did you get into Coppa this weekend? Leave your first impressions in the comments.
