Eater has learned that chef David Coffman has left Upper Kirby sushi restaurant Katsuya by Starck. According to a tipster, the chef left the high-concept, high-design restaurant in West Ave last week. Although owner sbe group declined to discuss personnel matters, it did confirm that Alex Becker, Katsuya Regional Chef, is now leading the kitchen. They also issued the following statement: "We can tell you that sbe constantly strives to enhance the customer experience at all of our venues. As such, with Katsuya Houston nearing its one-year anniversary, sbe has evaluated the restaurant and listened to our local community, making adjustments we feel will help heighten the experience in an overall effort to provide one of the bat fine dining destinations in Houston."
