BELLAIRE — Food will take center stage at the Kicking Cancer's Ass event this Sunday, held in memory of Jonathan Platon, a Houston food lover who coined the catchphrase the event is named after while undergoing cancer treatments. The $10 admission plus some food tickets will gain you access to dishes prepared by Seth Siegel-Gardner and Terrence Gallivan of Pilot Light RG, Justin Yu of Oxheart and Jody Stevens of Jodycakes. Proceeds will benefit The Nebraska Medical Center, where Platon once received cancer treatments. [Eaterwire]
MUSEUM DISTRICT — Far away in a Tokyo subway station sits a humble sushi joint that happens to have three Michelin stars. Here in Houston, the MFAH will be screening the documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi, about owner 85-year old Jiro Ono's life as a culinary star and father. Showings begin in April but tickets are on sale now. [EOW]
MEMORIAL — How many wine samples does it take to get to the center of your uninhibited self? Find out at Winefest 2012 at Brenner's on the Bayou on March 31. For $65, you get access to more than 24 wines and food pairings. [Eaterwire]
