Free Sprinkles Cupcakes; Liberty Station Chili Cook-Off

HIGHLAND VILLAGE — As rumors swirl around the possibility of a 24-hour Sprinkles ATM, cupcake addicts can at least take advantage of newly extended hours at all Houston locations. Starting March 15, Sprinkles will be open an extra hour (Mon-Sat 9am-9pm and Sun 10am-8pm). To celebrate, anyone who shows up on March 15 and 16 from 8 pm-9 pm will receive one free cupcake. WASHINGTON AVE — The 2nd Annual Liberty Station Chili Cook-Off benefiting Young Texans Against Cancer is this Saturday, March 10. There's still time to sign up for the competition and cash prizes to be won, but if you're more of an eater and less of a fighter, it's only $5 for tasting tickets. [Facebook]

MONTROSE — The Shrimp Boat Projects, a research endeavor concerned with the regional culture of Houston, is co-hosting the "Eating as a Spiritual Act" lecture at Rothko Chapel this Saturday, March 10, 1pm-4pm. Stay with us here: Norman Wirzba, a professor at Duke University's Divinity School, will lead the discussion alongside a panel of Texas "land stewards" on the ethical use of land and water. There will be free food (some of it from Down House!) at the reception afterwards. [Twitter]

SPRING BRANCH — One of the 10 Commandments is that Friday, March 9 is National Meatball Day so IKEA is donating $1 from every meatball plate sold to the Houston Food Bank. As usual, the $2.99 platter includes 10 meatballs, mashed potatoes, cream sauce and lingonberries. [Eaterwire]
