MONTROSE— Anvil Bar and Refuge revealed its second annual Summer of the South cocktail menu today. Each drink pays homage to the South's rich cocktail history. Chris Frankel's Savannah Deluge was inspired by Madeira imports in the early nineteenth century; it blends cognac, madeira, root liqueur, maple syrup and biters. The menu also utilizes summertime produce such as strawberries and green tomatoes. In a press release, Anvil General Manager Alba Huerta says, "To me this menu pays homage to those ingredients that are readily available to Southerners. With this menu, we are able to express our Southern roots and share a part of our upbringing with others.” [Eaterwire]
MUSEUM DISTRICT— Continuing with today's look at new menus from Cocktail Heatmap bars, Grand Prize introduces Commercial Free Wednesdays, a collaboration between Alex Gregg and Grand Prize bartender Billy Boyd. The cocktail menu features twists on classic cocktails such as adding orange bitters to a gin martini. It will also include the duo's own creations such as the Washboard Fix that consists of pisco, watermelon, pineapple, lime, salt, fennel(?!?) and bitters. Grand Prize's kitchen will be open, serving its usual menu from food truck The Modular.[Eaterwire]
