With the controversy over its two day old beer list fading from memory, the time has come to examine new Midtown craft beer and cocktail bar Mongoose Versus Cobra. My Table magazine's Phaedra Cook pays a visit to MvsC (as it's known) to assess its place in the Houston bar scene. Thankfully, Cook (no relation to Houston Chronicle critic Alison) pretty much loves everything about the new bar. Housed in a building that dates to 1915, which is unusually old by Houston's usual mode of tearing down any building that predates World War II, Cook finds the space "utterly charming." She singles out the KeyKegs located above the bar behind glass as one particularly striking feature. She's impressed by both the food and cocktails, as well. Although only open for two weeks, MvsC is already an industry hangout. Cook concludes "That should be testament enough for anyone to go give it a try."
