News came Sunday that the Sherlock's Baker St. Pub location on West Gray in River Oaks had closed after Saturday night's service. While Sherlock's had been a popular happy hour destination for many years, the move across the street changed it for the worse. Sherlock's began running $1 drink specials on Fridays to attract new customers. In 2011, on a night when such specials were running, an off-duty police officer shot two men when he tried to break up an argument in the parking lot. After the incident, Paul West, former chief financial officer of Sherlock's parent company, filed a complaint against Sherlock's with the Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission alleging that these happy hour prices were irresponsible and contributed to the shooting. The closure also marks the end of the space's time as a spot for live comedy that dated back to the 1990's when it housed the Laff Stop.
Sherlock's owners HUSA Management Inc will open Local Pour in the space. The new pub will feature sharable menu items, cocktails and monthly beer dinners. Local Pour will open this fall.
