Batanga Coming to Market Square

On Twitter today, restaurant blogger and news reporter Maya Fasthoff announced that she and other members of her family will be opening Batanga, a Latin American tapas restaurant in Market Square downtown. Fasthoff blogs as the Restaurant Traveler and does video segments for KRIV Fox 26 in Houston. According to its Facebook page, Batanga will serve cuisine from Latin and South America seven days a week. When the restaurant opens next year, it will feature a 3600 square foot patio.

The announcement represents another victory for a downtown dining scene that was rocked by closures from restaurants such as the Strip House, Convey Sushi and ERA Pizzeria. Batanga, along with the OKRA Charity Saloon and the Burger Guys, represents a new wave of downtown dining options.
