Upcoming Menil Cafe to Welcome Famous Chef

Greg Martin, former food and beverage manager of Cafe Express, has been called upon to run the kitchen at the highly anticipated new cafe at the Menil. The restaurant is still unnamed and will have craft beer and draft wine. The concept makes sense, considering that many locals head to this museum not just for the world-class exhibits, but also to enjoy the grounds around it. Menil Park is constantly packed with college students and families having picnics whenever the weather is bearable. The Chronicle's Syd Kearney reports that it should be open sometime in the next year and that the bungalow that will house it will "be augmented by new construction that will house the kitchen, bar and bathrooms. A glass pavilion will connect the two spaces. When complete, the cafe should seat 100 people. The restaurant will be open 10 a.m.-10 p.m. daily. Between lunch and dinner service, Martin said a mini kitchen will provide light fare such as panini and salads."
