Locals Compete to Name the Upcoming Menil Café

While it might cost millions for the Strakes or Andersons to put their labels on Houston buildings, it will cost local thinkers zero...well, kind of. You won't be able to put your own name on the building, but the brain trust behind the upcoming "Café Menil" on the Menil Park grounds (next to The University of Saint Thomas and Rothko Chapel) is allowing locals to play the Name Game, a contest in which locals submit their restaurant name ideas. To play and possibly help name the upcoming shop, locals are asked to submit name suggestions to CafeNameGame@menil.org by November 25, 2013. The winner will be announced on January 6, 2014, and will receive a table for two at a VIP lunch preview of the new restaurant.

Last week the Houston Chronicle announced that Greg Martin, former executive chef of Cafe Express and Taco Milagro, had been called upon to run the kitchen the Menil Park café. Syd Kearney reported that the "restaurant will be open 10 a.m.-10 p.m. daily. Between lunch and dinner service, Martin said a mini kitchen will provide light fare such as panini and salads." No word yet on if the winner has a say when it comes to the menu.
