Yesterday CultureMap reported that Underbelly's esteemed executive sous chef, Ryan Lachaine, who worked alongside executive chef and co-owner Chris Shepherd, would be parting ways with that nationally renowned restaurant. Today, Lachaine sent Eater a message about the departure:
I'm going to take a little time off. Hang out with my two-and-a-half year-old twin boys, be a dad. I'm looking forward to cooking at Indie Chefs Week at Foreign & Domestic in January. There's going to be some cool things happening in Houston in the new year, and I'm excited to be a part of them.
Lachaine did not comment on whether the split was amicable. It'll be exciting to see what comes next from the young, talented chef that helped catapult Underbelly into the national scene. He's also known around Eater as a member of the Eater Young Guns class of 2013 for his work and his status as a young, up-and-coming chef. CultureMap reports that Clumsy Butcher culinary director Erin Smith will temporarily fill in for Lachaine at Underbelly.
