The Houston Chronicle reports that a fire broke out at the House of Pies in Upper Kirby late last night. No injuries were reported and all 70 to 80 customers who were dining there last night are said to have calmly exited the building. Manager Greg Smith told the Chronicle that "the customers and staff smelled smoke in the dining area, and then a patron rushed in from outside saying smoke was coming from the roof at the front of the building ... the exact cause is still being investigated."
The restaurant is currently closed but, according to Smith, should be reopen in time for the Thanksgiving pie rush.
