Camerata's On the National Map; Banana Split at Cloud 10

MONTROSEEater National has published a Heatmap of the country's best wine bars. Local favorite Camerata made the cut: "Owned by Paul Petronella and directly adjacent to his restaurant Paulie's, Camerata offers an ever-changing bottle list from ex-Uchi Houston beverage director David Keck in a space that draws a hip, younger crowd. There are tons of by-the-glass offerings and, bonus, a late night sandwich menu." [-EN-]

DESSERT WIREThe Houston Chronicle's Alison Cook heads to chef-driven dessert shop and ice cream parlor Cloud 10 Creamery for the popular banana split. "This stupendous ice-cream creation has all the complexity and precision of a modern plated dessert: which is to be expected when the auteur is Leung, who made his pastry-chef mark doing avant-garde sweets for Kata Robata. It's the intricate play of textures that lifts his banana split above the great sploodge of gooey horrors that dominate the genre." [Houston Chronicle]

LUBY'S LOVEHoustonia's Katharine Shilcutt defends Texas-based chain Luby's in this Gastronaut post. "When I want a heaping portion of perfectly-cooked liver and onions—a decidedly old-school dish that's tough to find these days—with a side of creamy mac 'n' cheese and fluffy, crispy fried okra, there's nowhere else I'd rather be than at Luby's."
