After Dunkin' Donuts announced that it would be opening 50 to 60 stores in the Houston area, another doughnut kingdom is ready to offer some mega-chain competition. Several years ago Krispy Kreme opened shops around town that did well, but not well enough after a series of lawsuits. It will return with a slower growth than last time, reentering the market with Dulce Restaurants LLC and opening about 10 stores over the next five years. It will battle the massive Dunkin' expansion as well as locally owned shops. Kirspy Kreme's return has polarized Houston doughnut lovers, some are already salivating at the thought of the cream-coated fried treats, and others are happy to stick with the options we currently have in town.
