UPPER KIRBY— In true Houston spirit, whenever one of our small veteran businesses is hurting, the community bands together to help out. After a series of recent tragedies, Bella-Katherine Curtis' My Dee Dee's Pie Shoppe suffered another hardship. The family-owned shop burned down just days after baking 2,000 pies for Thanksgiving. Now, a whole roster of top chefs will be contributing to a benefit that will be held this Saturday (December 7) from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Haven. The event's hosts are Fluff Bake Bar's Rebecca Masson, Haven's Randy Evans and Roost's Kevin Naderi. Underbelly's Chris Shepherd will donate an auction item, and Triniti's Samantha Mendoza and Mr. Peeples' Johnny Wesley will offer up baked goods for the sale. Killen's Barbecue's Ronnie Killen will be bringing his famous Pearland barbecue pop-up to the event, too. Admission to the live music and food benefit is $50 and goes directly to helping the bakery rebuild. Guests are also welcome to just stop by the bake sale and pick up some goodies. [Eaterwire]
NOVELTY BEVERAGES— Eater National reports that a blended Scotch whisky is the latest promotional prop for Will Ferrell's Anchorman 2. "Riviera Imports — which is also behind brands like Molly's Irish Cream and Pride & Clarke Vodka — has unleashed 'Great Odin's Raven Special Reserve,' a blended Scotch whisky featuring a '60% malt and 40% grain blend by Old St. Andrews Distillery.'" DOWNTOWN— This Friday (December 5), The League of Extraordinary Brewers will host their 1st Annual BrewHumbug UnChristmas Fiestakkah. The anti-celebration will feature "unChristmas caroling", small-batch beers, a white elephant gift swap and the movie Bad Santa, showing at midnight. More info here. [Eaterwire]
