Although recent conversations have focused on whether or not Washington Avenue's time as a hotspot is coming to an end, Midtown has quietly undergone something of a resurgence. Clubs such as Proof and Myst opened last year, and now three more are set to open between tonight and the beginning of April.
The first is Capitol Bar, which should not be confused with The Capitol at St. Germain in downtown. Capitol bills itself as Houston's newest patio bar, and it begins a soft opening tonight. A photo on its Facebook page shows a large outdoor seating area that should make it a perfect place to hangout during spring's pleasant weather.
Worhals Midtown looks set to add another craft beer bar to join Mongoose versus Cobra. A recent post on its Facebook page promised a 26 seat bar and an earlier post promised 100 beers on tap. Expect it to open sometime in the next two or three weeks.
Finally, Dogwood is the first Houston outpost of Austin's Carmack Concepts; the groups owns a number of bars on 6th Street. Dogwoods looks to combine a couple of recent Midtown trends. Like MvsC, it's housed in a renovated structure that's been completely transformed. Like Proof and Capitol, it features an expansive patio; this one is located on the bar's roof. A post on the bar's Facebook page indicates a mid-March opening.
