Recently, an Eater reader wrote in to the tipline inquiring about Houston's best sandwiches. The question left us a little bewildered. Honestly, when it comes to surrounding a protein with a bread product, most Houstonians will choose a burger or a taco before a sandwich. This city will probably never be defined by its affection for a single sandwich (think Philly and the cheesesteak), but that doesn't mean there aren't a few places doing it right.
There are a few obvious names: a banh mi at Les Givrals or a torta at Tierra Caliente spring to mind. Then there's the recent trend towards better sandwiches at places like The Pass & Provisions, the Eatsie Boys Cafe or Blacksmith.
Share your thoughts on Houston's best sandwiches in the comments or send them in via the tipline. We'll collect the best responses, mix in a few of our own favorites and turn the whole thing into a highly useful map on Tuesday.
