In a development that seemed inevitable after the Texas State Comptroller reported that it owed $40,000 in back taxes, Pearl Bar has been locked out by its landlord. An Eater tipster sent in this photo last night showing the lockout notice. It marks the second high-profile Washington Avenue shuttering in the past two weeks, following sports bar Sawyer Park's closure.
Although it seems that Midtown might be rising at Washington's expense, those predicting its complete demise shouldn't hold their breath. Kung Fu and Hughes Hanger continue to pack in a mix of dude bros from across the city every weekend, and the Roosevelt Lounge seems to draw a consistent crowd despite, wink-wink, nudge-nudge, arbitrary door policies (according to Yelpers). For now, the road goes on forever and the party never ends.
