Latin American tapas bar Batanga opens today at 11:00 a.m. It's the newest restaurant in downtown's Uberblock that also contains the Original OKRA Charity Saloon, Goro & Gun and Captain Foxheart's Bad News Bear and Spirits Lodge. Atlanta restaurateur Brian Fasthoff moved to Houston from Atlanta to open Batanga with his brother, local attorney Hank Fasthoff. In the kitchen, chef Ben McPherson brings experience from stints in Connecticut, previous work with Fasthoff at Atlanta restaurant Loca Luna and travels in Spain to the menu.
Inside, the former Tosca space has been thoroughly renovated, save for the long bar. There's a stage at the far end of the dining room that will host live music. Outside, the 3600 sq ft patio will be the restaurant's signature feature. Batanga will host pig roasts and other events on the patio.
