Cocktail bar Captain Foxheart's Bad News Bar & Spirit Lodge opened this weekend in downtown's Uberblock that contains Goro & Gun, the Original OKRA Charity Saloon and newly opened Latin American tapas restaurant Batanga. Leading the staff is bartender and co-owner Justin Burrow, who brings with him the experiences from previous stints at Anvil, Haven and Fitzgerald's. Burrow described the project as "planting his flag" to demonstrate his commitment, along with business partners Ryan Rouse and Brad Moore, to the future of downtown Houston.
Inside, a massive, 25 seat bar runs almost the entire length of the space. Outside, a large patio offers views down Main Street and towards the courthouses. In addition to the taxidermy fox, the bar's namesake animal is represented in fox-head shaped purse hooks along the bar. Chronicle critic Alison Cook predicted Friday night that the space will be a Houston classic.
Bad News Bar (as it will likely be known) opens tonight at 5:00 p.m. The blender-made "boat drinks" Burrow promised in an interview will follow later this week. Go get one.
