CHAMPIONS— Hurricane Grill & Wings opened on Monday at 4505 FM 1960 West. The Florida-based chain offers 30 varieties of wings such as maple pepper glaze and sweet red chili sauce. There are steaks, seafood, burgers and fried stuff, too. Happy hour is from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with $2 pints of domestic beer and $3 well drinks. [EaterWire]
RICE MILITARY— The Chopping Block opened this week in the former V21/Fusion space on Washington Avenue next to Kung Fu. Despite the scary name, the restaurant is Houston's latest high-end burger concept with a mix of creative toppings and interesting ingredients. For example, the Mona Lisa burger has Gorgonzola cheese, sundried tomatoes, olives, pancetta, sliced red onions, and arugula on a Brioche bun. Also, unlike some other burger joints, it's open until 2:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. [Facebook]
DOWNTOWN— Gigi's Cupcakes opened a new location in the Downtown Tunnels underneath the JPMorgan Chase Tower. The Nashville-based chain already has stores in Sugar Land and The Woodlands. The menu rotates between 50 flavors that include orange dreamsicle and Texas milk chocolate. [29-95]
