On her personal blog today, Houston Press critic Katharine Shilcutt announced that, after three years as the paper's restaurant critic, she'll be resigning at the end of June to become the features editor at Houstonia magazine. As she writes,
I'm thrilled to be reunited with my old Press colleagues Cathy Matusow, John Nova Lomax and Robb Walsh. I owe a tremendous amount to both Cathy and Robb for being my editor and mentor, respectively, in a career I never thought I'd have. I've been tremendously lucky to have them both in my life.
Reached for comment, Shilcutt tells Eater that
It's been a pleasure and a privilege to cover such an amazing, diverse, challenging, evolving dining scene. I'm inspired by the work that our service industry does every single day, from bus boys to chefs. I love Houston more than I love nearly anything else, and our food is a large part of the reason why.
The search for a new food critic begins now. With a legacy that includes current Chronicle critic Alison Cook and Houstonia food editor Robb Walsh, there are big shoes to fill.
