In its July/August issue's listing of America's best bars, Playboy magazine has selected The Original OKRA Charity Saloon as the "Best Reason to Give." About the bar where patrons vote for which charity will receive the next month's profits, the magazine writes that "Drinking has never felt so virtuous."

Bar and restaurant owners from across the city, including Anvil, Poison Girl, Grand Prize and Paulie's, united to create the Saloon as part of the latest wave of downtown revitalization. Houston's Uberblock has seen three other concepts open since March, two more been officially announced and two in the rumor stages. These openings have transformed downtown Houston into one of the city's hottest dining neighborhoods. Fans of the Saloon can pick up a copy of this issue of Playboy secure in the knowledge that they're really "reading it for the articles."
