According to a sign posted in the window, Maine-ly Sandwiches will open a second location in the spot on Shepherd previously occupied by Sugarbaby's Cupcakes, which closed in May after over five years in business. On the restaurant's Facebook page, a representative posted that the new location will be open in three weeks. Owner Buddy Charity tells Houstonia features editor Katharine Shilcutt that the restaurant's signature lobster rolls will have a prominent spot on the menu, and the addition of a deep fryer should allow for French fries and crab cakes.
Although it's only been open less than a year, Maine-ly Sandwiches has already made its mark on the city's dining scene. In her review, Shilcutt wrote that the lobster rolls are "as fresh, hot and full of sweet claw meat as would be eaten inside a seafood shack in Maine." Now inner loopers who've been reluctant to make the drive to Greenspoint can see what all the fuss is about.
