Mr. Peeples, Midtown's most recent steakhouse and seafood restaurant, just opened to the public Monday night, but the focus has been more on the furnishings and drapes than on the upscale fare. Many are criticizing the restaurant's "gaudy" décor and old-Vegas color scheme. Designer Carlos Castroparedes is a hospitality interior designer whose portfolio includes W Hotel in Scottsdale. He says he fully intended a glammed-up but contemporary motif for this space.
"It's a very interesting concept," Castroparedes said in a release. "No one else has this concept worldwide. With everything that's going on in Houston, this city deserves an upscale, really trendy restaurant. This concept is like Houston meets New York meets Vegas meets Los Angeles meets Dubai, with a little European flair for good measure. The idea was to make something spectacular."
Mr. Peeples is another Landmark Houston Hospitality Group (LH2G) project. Founded in 2005 by Lucky Chopra, this restaurant group also owns Hearsay Gastro Lounge and 51fifteen Restaurant & Lounge.
Chef Pedro Silva of LH2G's Hearsay and 51fifteen will oversee the execution of seafood, steak and several gluten-free options. A 1,600-bottle two-story wine tower, craft beer selection and craft cocktails will accompany the new menu. While outspoken readers have been tough on the interior design, very few have actually tried the prominent toque's dishes.
