Food Events This Weekend; Eating Out With Kids

BOOK CLUB— Check out this first look at Luke Nguyen's The Food of Vietnam. A brief review from Eater National: "Where The Food of Vietnam succeeds is in its emphasis on regional Vietnamese cuisine, with chapters dedicated to 16 regions. Many American cookbooks on Southeast Asian cuisines (or, indeed, Asian cuisines in general) tend to be generalizing, flattening each country into one representative cuisine." [-EN-]

DEFCON DINING— The Houston Press' Nicholas L. Hall breaks down the controversial issue of dining out with children: "Dining out with children is an exercise in situational awareness. Each experience is unique, with different variables leading to different possible outcomes, DEFCON-like in their escalating threat levels." [Houston Press]

EVENT WIRE— There's tons to do all around town this weekend, as long as you have a healthy appetite. Pop-ups, food truck parties and beer fests are all part of the fun. Check out our list. [Eaterwire]
