Jason Kerr is taking over as the kitchen at Lowbrow, following the departure of Rachel Merk, who says she's leaving to chart new horizons.
"It was always the plan to be here to set up the kitchen and get this place running," Merk said. "Now it is time for me to move on to my next project."
Merk came on board at the popular Montrose bar and restaurant back in October. Her culinary resume included tenure at Liberty Kitchen here in town, as well as at Rioja in Denver. She also trained at the Culinary Institute of America, like Lowbrow's culinary director, Matt Marcus, who's also chef/owner at Eatsie Boys Café.
Kerr was hired as Merk's assistant, following his own departure from Hollister, which closed last September. While there, his menu was known for its comfort foods, in homage to the food he cherished growing up. It's a safe bet his Southern-influenced home cooking will continue to drive the vision behind Lowbrow, which opened to be a neighborhood pub serving up great brews and down-home food.
