A few months shy of their one-year anniversary (and the week of their actual wedding anniversary), Russell and Elizabeth Theode did a bit of a reboot at their tiki bar, Lei Low. They're still focusing on classic tiki drinks, given a bit of a new spin, and now they've added new menu items and debuted a happy hour. Tuesday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., wear your finest tiki attire and get any of the drinks on the aloha shirt club menu for $6 ($8 at all other times or without aloha wear). The painkilla, a coconut and citrus drink laced with rum is a standout. The scorpion is a must-try classic.
There's a whole bunch of new drinks, including the beach movie actress, with Campari and passion fruit, and the shark's tooth, a drink Russ found in a 1945 cocktail book. It's a strong rendering of rum, French vermouth, slow gin, and more passion fruit. Bonus: It's served in a ceramic shark.
You'll also find new selections of draft beer and wine on the menu, but your best bet is still any of the rum-soaked island drinks.
