Welcome to the Dive Bar Power Hour, a full hour dedicated to dive bars. Unlike their more popular sibling, the cocktail bar, dive bars are slightly rough around the edges - maybe sticky too - but even they need love too.

Eater Houston asked the general managers of Anvil Bar & Refuge and The Pastry War if they remembered their first dive bar experience in Houston. Here's what they revealed:

Francisco Terrazas, general manager of The Pastry War: "During my transition from Austin to Houston, a couple of bartenders from Anvil would take me out with them. The first dive bar of many was Poison Girl."

Terry Williams, general manager of Anvil Bar & Refuge: "My first dive bar in Houston wasn't in Houston proper, it was at Gene's Better Times in Pasadena. I spent many a nights there."
