The best part of the Houston Livestock & Rodeo Show aside from the concerts, livestock and Western wares is hands down the food. The monstrous turkey legs, fried covered every and the barbecue. The year, a newcomer to the scene is dusting off its boots and preparing to saddle up for what could be a busy rodeo season.
Glazed the doughnut cafe revealed a new flavor that's been in the works for a while: a barbecue donut (aka rodeo donut). A munificent helping of brisket smothered in barbecue sauce and caramelized onions on top of a honey butter glazed donut. No word on the brisket supplier but there are more flavors to come. The tentatively named donut and other rodeo specials will be available once the season begins in February.
What to do until then? The food loving people of the Woodlands Area Foodies Facebook group suggest pairing a donut with barbecue from The Corkscrew or Godfather's BBQ in Spring-really any barbecue would work- and go to town. Or you could get the Killache to hold you over until next year.
