Cheryl Gibbs Departs Bad News Bar

A rising bartender leaves a nationally acclaimed cocktail bar for a new path.

Cheryl Gibbs has parted ways with Captain Foxheart's Bad News Bar & Spirit Lodge (also known as Bad News Bar). Leaving on good terms, Gibbs was ready to step from behind the bar as a bartender and pursue another path, "I truly love being part of the community, but after 14 years behind the bar it's time for the next chapter in my life." The Humble native has spent years perfecting her craft with stints in Portland, Beaver's and a bar manager at Cottonwood. Last year, Gibbs was awarded the Eater Award for Houston's Bartender of the Year.

Gibbs wants "to focus more on the creative side and helping to teach other, newer bartenders the skills they need to excel in this ever competitive and ever changing business." She'll do just that at Republic National Distribution Company (RNDC), one of the largest distributor of premium wines and spirits in the United States. Gibbs has been tapped to serve as a mixologist for the Houston market where she'll develop beverage menus across the city. Nick Babcock, national mixologist with RNDC is excited to have Gibbs on board, "we have worked with Cheryl over the last couple of years and have identified her passion and dedication of becoming a top tier beverage industry professional."

Although Gibbs is thrilled about her new path, she will always have a special place in her heart for the bar life. "What I'll miss the most about [being] behind the bar is that on a daily basis, part of my job was to hang out with my friends and make people feel at home in the bar," says the Humble native. "It's also been an amazing experience to work with Justin Burrow (Bad News Bar owner), one of the most respected bar owners in Houston. Everything I've learned is one of the reasons I'm able to advance in my career today."
