After longstanding steakhouse Cattleguard closed several months ago at 1010 Highway 6 North, rumors swirled a well-known sports bar would take its place. The rumors were confirmed when local real estate website Swamplot revealed the new tenant to be Christian's Tailgate Bar & Grill.
With 6,500 square footage, the Energy Corridor location will be the biggest of the local bar chain's three locations in the Heights, Midtown and Washington Avenue. From the outside, much of the old-time saloon-like look remains the same, with a new coat of paint replacing the longstanding red. The patio has been revamped with an outdoor bar added on. A shipping container was repurposed to create the bar.
Inside, 45 50 inch televisions fills the space, the largest offered of the other locations. 45 beers on tap, of which Karbach, 8th Wonder Brewery and Buffalo Bayou Brewing will be availble along with Guinness, Budweiser and beers for those unfamiliar with craft brews, says Christian’s Mazen Baltagi. A larger venue also means a bigger menu. Baltagi is expanding the menu offerings to include chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, quesadillas and more bar fare.
Construction is near completion and permits should be finalized next week. Baltagi plans to open the week after Thanksgiving.
