GALLERIA —  After several weeks in soft open mode, Amalfi Ristorante Italiano officially opened November 10. Zagat Houston suggests six coastal Italian dishes to try on the menu with wine pairings to boot. The towering herb-encrusted Berkshire pork fillet served with cauliflower mousse and fried tomatoes is one of the menu's more impressive dishes, pairing well with the recommended "light and fruity red wine," Barbera d'Alba. WEST UNIVERSITY — Russell Weil of the burger focused blog Eat More Burgers visited Jerry Built Burgers to try the Mac & Cheeseburger. Local news personality Katherine Whaley, created the burger in partnership with the local chain to raise money for the charity Kid's Meal. The gooeyness factor was a plus for Weil, who thoroughly enjoyed the burger. Whaley's burger is available at the West University and The Woodlands locations. [Eat More Burgers]

MEMORIAL — Current Houston Chronicle food editor Greg Morago interviewed Ann Criswell, the Chronicle's first food editor responsible for the daily offering a food section in the 60's.
