Houston's been without a Krispy Kreme for eight long years since a disagreement with franchisee Lone Star Doughnuts severed ties with the North Carolina-based doughnut giant in 2006. Good news for Shipley Do-Nuts — a hometown favorite — but bad news for those received their thrills from having their fried breakfast treats served hot and fresh, courtesy of the "hot now" neon sign alerting them to it.
Last year, Dulce Restaurants LLC announced the opening of ten stores over the next five years. Sadly, none have popped up in Houston this year. With the year almost over, is the restaurant group any closer to opening a Krispy Kreme in Houston? A source tells Eater Houston, yes.
The location pictured above is speculated to be the shopping strip that will house the city's first Krispy Kreme since its re-emergence into the Houston market. The rumored doughnut shop is situated next to the Centre at Yorktown Crossing, a strip center on 5537 Highway 6 North near Kolache Factory. It's rumored to open in the first quarter of 2015. A hiring post on Craigslist appears to confirm an early 2015 opening too.
Representatives with Dulce Restaurants have not responded to requests for further information. Eater will update with their response once it's available.
