Claire Smith, owner of Canopy and Shade, is perking up Montrose with her new coffeehouse Woodbar. The coffee bar adjacent to Canopy in the 3939 Montrose Shopping Center, soft opened December 5 and officially opens Wednesday, December 17. In addition to coffee from barista Annie Huynh, pastries from pastry chef Jonny Ugarte will be served in the morning and a bar menu from Canopy executive chef Liz Brooks in the afternoons.

A full bar will also be available. According to Houston Chronicle, "it is a separate entity from Canopy but will operate as the service bar for the adjacent restaurant (the bar within Canopy is no more)." The Chronicle also notes Deidre Goodhue (The Pass & Provisions) will serve as beverage director and has developed a cocktail program for Woodbar.
