After hosting family and friends for a preview last evening, brothers Taylor and Darin Lee are opening their new bar Ladybirds to the public this evening. The Lees completely renovated the former lesbian hangout The Usual, adding a deck and other noticeable touches throughout.

The first-time bar owners nabbed veteran nightlife expert Charles Bishop of Liberty Station, Cottonwood, and the forthcoming Heights restaurant and bar concept, Southern Goods as a partner. Also joining the Ladybirds team, Lyle Bento, executive chef of Bishop's Southern Goods. Bento will handle the kitchen, working out of a food truck similar to the setup at Montrose's Bar Boheme.

Texan, Southern and revamped bar classics will be available once the kitchen is up and running. Bento revealed he recently secured a truck (the first truck he and The Chicken Ranch's Joshua Martinez cooked in during early days of Martinez's food truck,The Modular). The truck will be named The Whistle-Stop, a tribute to First Lady Lady Bird Johnson's train tours and the bar's proximity to the railroad track. Bento hopes to have the truck ready for service very soon.
