Is La Casa del Caballo Leaving Houston for Good?

New, 1 comment

There may be hope for La Casa del Caballo in the Bayou City.

Maybe this grand space was too much for Mexican import La Casa Del Caballo.

Earlier today, news spread of La Casa del Caballo's closing December 31 and El Tiempo 1308 Cantina moving in as first reported by Houston Chronicle. This morning, Roland Laurenzo, owner and operator of El Tiempo's restaurants released the following statement regarding the reports:

The rumor is true. La Casa Del Caballo will close on December 31, 2014, and we will take possession on January 1, 2015. We will remodel the space during January, February and March, more or less, and we expect to move there on April 1, 2015 at the latest. Then we will close 1308.

Thank you,
Roland Laurenzo

Eater Houston has been unable to reach a spokesperson or manager with La Casa del Caballo for further comments, but an early morning tweet from a person by the name of Ted Frank on Twitter, seems to suggest that the Mexican steakhouse's future in Houston hasn't come to an end:

If this the above tweet it true and CultureMap is correct, there's still hope for La Casa del Caballo. Perhaps the grand size of the restaurant and upkeep was too much for the restaurant whose parking lot was never as full as neighboring restaurants on prime nights. If the Mexican restaurant does move to a smaller location, fans of the house specialty tapa de lomo - an expertly trimmed and grilled ribeye cap weighing over four pounds - will be pleased.
