Not everyone receives high praise from Daniel Vaughn, barbecue editor of Texas Monthly — it's especially rare for a barbecue chain — but Baker's Rib on South Voss did the impossible last month thanks to franchise owner Russell Roegels. "Roegels has set his sights on greatness and he’s mostly hitting it. To do this he’s had to veer from company standards in a few areas," Vaughn said of Roegels' attention in offering quality 'cue — which is perhaps why Roegels tweeted his plans to leave the franchise yesterday:
@tmbbq We will be leaving The Bakers Ribs franchise in the real near future. We wish the Bakers Ribs franchise nothing but success.

Roegels is opening his own barbecue restaurant, Roegels Barbecue Co., as his new Twitter handle indicates. Additional details were released this morning by Houston Chronicle's barbecue reporter J.C. Reid, including Roegels' decision to stay at the current location and new menu items.
