Former Solea Space May be Welcoming a New Restaurant

When Solea closed, its owners promised to return in that same space with a new concept and brand. It's now looking like those plans might never come to fruition, since an Eater tipster discloses that a UK-based chain will open a restaurant there. A placeholder site for il Mascalzone states that it will "open soon" at 1500 Shepherd, where Solea once stood—there are also plans for a Westheimer outpost. While this concept comes courtesy of the UK, the menu consists of classic Italian pastas and entrées as well as an extensive pizza menu and wine list. If it does open at either Shepherd or Westheimer, Houston would be that chain's introduction to the American market. Check back for an update once we hear back from the owners.
