UPPER KIRBY— Go Pig! Or Go Home! is a competition where the city's top chefs compete by each cooking a whole suckling pig. This year's pig-off will be held on May 4, and only 500 tickets will be made available, since the event is hosted at Kata Robata's parking lot and space is somewhat limited. Tickets are $95 per person and can be purchased here beginning April 1. The 16 chefs competing are Manabu Horiuchi (Chef Hori) (Kata Robata), Michael Potowski (Benjy's Washington), Michael Pellegrino (MAX's Wine Dive), Matt Marcus (Eatsie Boys), Gabriel Medina (Soma Sushi), Ryan Hildebrand (Triniti), John Sheely (Mockingbird Bistro/Osteria Mazzantini), Ronnie Killen (Killen's Steakhouse/Killen's Barbecue), Randy Evans and Jean Philippe Gaston (Haven/Cove), Richard Knight of Treadsack, Kevin Bryant (Eleven XI), Roberto Castro (Latin Bites), Lance Fegen (BRC/Liberty Kitchen), Ryan Pera (Revival Market/Coltivare) and Kaz Edwards (Uchi). Live music, cocktails and 8th Wonder Brewery beer are all included in the admission price. A portion of the proceeds will go to Last Organic Outpost, a charitable organization that supports urban farming to establish a sustainable food economy in under-served areas. [Eaterwire]
SUGAR LAND— The annual Sugar Land Wine & Food Affair will see its 11th installment on April 23 through 27, with seminars, "sip and strolls," and a bartender competition with $1,000 at stake. On April 25, chefs including Neal Cox and Jean-Philippe Gaston will cook at the Grand Tasting, the festival's signature event. Buy tickets here. [EaterWire]
