Ryan Lachaine is headed back to the restaurant scene. The former Underbelly executive sous chef—and 2013 Eater Young Gun—has decided to re-join the team at Reef, where he worked before his time at Underbelly. Just last fall Lachaine told Eater that he would be taking time off to "hang out with my two-and-a-half year-old twin boys" and "be a dad." Lachaine headed to Indie Chefs Week at Foreign & Domestic back in January and has quietly kept busy at similar pop-ups before committing to this big project. He will be helping his industry friend Bryan Caswell (who co-owns Reef, El Real Tex-Mex and Little Bigs) re-write the menu at the Midtown seafood spot. Caswell told the Chronicle's Greg Morago that he and Lachaine has been "talking awhile since he left [Underbelly]." Caswell also told Morago that they're "going to hit the bricks hard and make changes," and that Lachaine has "been one of my better friends in the industry for a long time."
Caswell is also gearing up to open a restaurant with smoked meats maven Ronnie Killen. (A preview for that upcoming Montrose eatery can be found on Astros game days at Minute Maid Park.)
