The upcoming fourth Houston-area Bambu Desserts and Drinks isn't heading downtown as originally planned. The California-based tapioca tea chain first appeared in Houston at Hong Kong City Mall a few years ago and was slated to expand at a space on McKinney. Instead, the upcoming site will be where the Berripop Frozen Yogurt closed at 3825 Richmond. Bambu Desserts and Drinks announced its new forthcoming site on Twitter, and while the downtown spot was supposed to debut in late 2014, this new address might push the date up a bit.
Greenway Shopping Center also recently saw another west-side establishment move in when LA Crawfish opened a second location in the space that once housed Kobecue last January. It seems to be a trend of west Houston establishments becoming successful before moving closer into town, where rental rates are considerably higher and launching a new concept can be too expensive for smaller franchises.
