Midtown will welcome a fine dining establishment from a respected seafood chef in about a month. Chef Mark Holley will open Holley's Seafood Restaurant & Oyster Bar sometime in July at the former Sushi Raku space (see map at right), just steps away from Piola and upcoming Jinya Ramen. Holley became a fixture in the local dining scene thanks to his work at Pesce, the seafood spot in Upper Kirby that closed and made way for recently shuttered Brio. At Holley's, expect a seafood-centric menu with steak and small plates at the oyster bar menu.
Architect Michael Hsu, who is known for designing Uchi as well as this space's former incarnation as Raku—and who's currently working on Oporto's upcoming Midtown outpost—has been working alongside Ed Eubanks Architects to create a space suitable for both an upscale dining area and more casual oyster bar. The interior, unfinished as it is now, has been purged of the dramatic décor that once filled the red rope-filled Raku. Take a look below:
